Aquatic Facilities Operator - Regional District of Nanaimo The Regional District of Nanaimo has an employment opportunity for the position of Aquatic Facilities Operator at the Ravensong Aquatic Centre in Qualicum Beach. Reporting to the Superintendent of Recreation Facilities, the Facilities Operator will perform regular maintenance and repairs of the facility structure, equipment, machinery, grounds and amenities, which may include carpentry, painting, and grounds keeping. The Operator will be responsible for regular water testing, pool chemistry and filtration, inventory control, monitoring expenditures, and assisting with budgets, as well as assisting with the coordination of maintenance and custodial work performed by Maintenance Workers and Lifeguards, and preparing and maintaining a variety of records and reports related to Aquatic Centre operations. The Operator will also establish and implement preventative maintenance programs and perform duties to strict standards as applicable to ensure the safety and comfort of patrons and staff. Qualifications include a High School diploma plus a current level 1 and 2 Pool Operator Certificate with two years prior job related experience and two years apprenticeship training in a trade or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The incumbent must possess standard first aid courses, knowledge of WHMIS and safe work procedures, knowledge and experience in the operations of a commercial/public swimming pool physical plant including the operation and programming of building controls, equipment controls and monitoring computer software systems. Good communication skills with the ability to deal effectively with the public and children, knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database computer application, as well as the ability to work independently and as a team member are also required. This is a permanent full time Union position with varying hours of work. The rate of pay is $25.66 to $27.01 per hour. This position offers an attractive benefits package as provided within the Collective Agreement between the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 401.
